Critical Commentary
The launch event for exhibition 'Breathless: Documenting India's Air Pollution Emergency' had a panel of politicians moderated by Siddharth Singh. The politicians included Dharambir Singh from Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Abhishek Dutt from the Indian National Congress (INC), and Nimmi Rastogi from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
When Siddharth Singh asked the politicians about what different parties have done about India's air pollution, and plan to do, they agreed that air pollution is an apolitical issue, requiring collaboration across different scales of governance. Each of them also spoke about how air is a topic of conversation only among the wealthy and the intellectual (especially at their intersection).
As the political representatives spoke about what their respective parties have achieved in recent years, it became clear that collaborative efforts will take time.
